Abstract

This article addresses the importance of intellectual capital and knowledge management in tourism destinations by conducting a literature review and by presenting results from an international group of experts (using an adaptation from ISM, Methodology from Warfield) who analysed the influence of the elements of intellectual capital among themselves in order to determine which are the most influential elements of the intellectual capital. The findings include (i) the conceptualization of the main elements of intellectual capital of tourist destinations (ii) and the results obtained from consulting international experts on the influence of the elements of intellectual capital and especially the role of knowledge. The purpose of this article is therefore to conclude with a clear structure of intangible elements of the destinations and their influence, as well as the definition and the structure of the knowledge management in tourism destinations.
