Abstract

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games was a mega event that changed the Brazilian tourism structure, particularly in the city of Rio de Janeiro. This article focuses on the evaluation of the quality of services offered to tourists, and the study analyzes tourists perceptions of quality. This is a quantitative, exploratory, descriptive research using a survey and based on the Tourqual indicators. Interviews of 1912 tourists were carried out throughout the event. Data were treated and analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, student's t-test for mean comparison and Spearman correlation to define which indicators most influenced the mega event’s overall score. The main results indicate that the event had an evaluation index of 9.28 and the indicators of comfort, beauty, acoustics and temperature of the Olympic venues, variety of activities and transportation, were the indicators that most influenced the positive perception of quality at the event.
